Keep It Cool
Overheating is the number-one killer of laptops. Here is what to do:
- Clean the vents every 3–6 months with compressed air
- Use a cooling pad if you run heavy software
- Never block the vents by placing the laptop on soft surfaces
Battery Care
Avoid draining to 0% regularly. Plug in when you reach around 20%.
- Avoid charging to 100% constantly if your laptop supports battery health modes
- Store the laptop at around 50% charge if you won't use it for weeks
- Replace aging batteries before they swell. Swollen batteries can damage the chassis
Software Hygiene
A slow laptop often just needs a clean-up:
- Remove programs you don't use
- Run disk cleanup and delete temporary files monthly
- Keep Windows and drivers updated to avoid security vulnerabilities
- Consider a fresh OS install every 2–3 years
Screen and Body Care
- Use a microfibre cloth (not paper towels) to clean the screen
- Keep food and liquids away from the keyboard
- Use a padded sleeve or bag when carrying the laptop
OM Computers Tip: If your laptop takes more than 60 seconds to boot, bring it in for a free diagnosis. Often a ₹3,000 SSD upgrade makes it feel brand new.
